Make plans now to attend our Adventures in Learning program on Friday, November 8th at St. Ansgar's Church in Cannon Falls. Our program starts at 9:30 a.m. and concludes with a lunch at noon. Speaking at the November 8th event will be Doug Ohman, a self-taught historical photographer,  who documents historical and architectural buildings and landscapes as one way to tell the story of Minnesota history. Ohman has published numerous books of his photography accompanied by descriptions and stories related to each photograph. Also speaking will be Vince Cockriel, who recently opened a World War II museum near Cannon Falls. Cockriel comes from a long line of soldiers, most of whom served in the Army. His grandfather served in the Spanish-American War and died while serving in World War I. His father and uncles served in World War II. He will speak about his museum, which
contains World War II uniforms, firearms, war souvenirs and even a sample bivouac, plus much, much more. In fact, his museum will be open the weekend of November 9-11, 2014. Make plans to join us on Friday, November 8th for our Adventures in Learning...please RSVP by calling Shepherd's Center at 507-263-2136.

I’d like to remind everyone again that our library is always open and offers a large assortment of books, games, videos, puzzles and more. Plus, we have two computers with internet access available to the public and if anyone needs help with setting up email, I’d be more than happy to oblige. Our game days have been popular here at Shepherd’s Center…if you haven’t yet joined us, why not make plans to come on Thursday, October 24th from 1 till 3 p.m. You can join in and play various board games, cards, Wii games or just enjoy refreshments and socializing. We have our game days the 4th Thursday of each month here at Shepherd’s Center, located at 120 State
Street West.

We do appreciate the financial support that Shepherd’s Center receives from this area. If you are not aware, 100% of our entire budget comes from the Cannon Valley area and is spent in the Cannon Valley area. If you find it in your heart to make a donation to Shepherd’s Center, let me assure you it is sincerely appreciated. Thanks to all who have donated this past month, whether it was through our Business Appeal, general donations or memorials. In September we received a donation given in memory of Lila Swanson.

As some of you may know, besides my work at Shepherd’s Center I am also an auctioneer who specializes in benefit auctions. I have had the pleasure to work with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital for the past 8 years. If you didn’t know, Danny Thomas was the man behind St. Jude and I leave you this month with a quote from him; “Success has nothing to do with what you gain in life or accomplish for yourself. It's what you do for others.”  What a wonderful outlook to have on life.

Well, goodbye summer and hello fall!
