Cannon Valley Fair –I want to sincerely thank all the volunteers who helped us work the gates at this year’s Cannon Valley Fair. This is a very important fund raising activity for the Cannon Valley Senior Center and it takes a lot of volunteers from the community. We appreciate all of you very much, thank you!

Seniors Down the Trail – Last fall, we tried something new by bringing senior citizens down the Cannon Valley Trail on golf carts. It was such a successful event, that we brought more seniors down the trail last week. This gives senior citizens that are physically unable to walk or bike down the trail, an opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the trail. Plans are to offer another trip down the Cannon Valley Trail this fall. A total of 36 took part last week, riding in 6 different carts.

Next Concert – Please mark down Saturday, September 15th on your calendars. That’s when the Cannon Valley Senior Center will bring the #1 show in Nashville to Cannon Falls! Our next fund raising concert will feature Tim “The Fiddleman” Watson, who has had the number one show in Nashville for years. Tim has opened shows for many superstars like George Strait, Ricky Skaggs, George Jones, Lonestar, Keith Urban, Conway Twitty, Ronnie Milsap, and The Judds, just to name a few. The show will be at the Cannon Falls High School Auditorium and tickets will go on sale next month. You don’t want to miss it!

Book Buddies Donations – We want to say a big thank you to the Cannon Falls Fire Department and Goodhue County Cooperative Electric for their financial contributions to help continue funding of our Book Buddies program. The funds were needed to purchase new books and continue to have Gordon Fredrickson put on a program at the end of each school year, where each first grade student receives a new, autographed, hard cover book to take home. We are so excited to see this program continue and if anyone is interested in volunteering to read to first graders once a week, please contact us.

Memorial – This past month, we received donations in memory of Elaine Lindahl and LaVoy Brandvold. One of our biggest challenges is to have sufficient financial resources to continue to offer our many programs and services that benefit the community. Please consider a donation; your financial contributions stay in the Cannon Valley area!

Meals-on-Wheels – We are in need of additional drivers to help deliver “Meals-on-Wheels.” Deliveries take place on weekdays from 11 a.m. till noon and are within the city limits of Cannon Falls. This program serves homebound individuals, disabled individuals and those who are unable to prepare nutritious meals. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Nicole at 507-732-8588.
As we just finished celebrating the 4th of July, let us remember to words of Harry S. Truman; “America was built on courage, on imagination and an unbeatable determination to do the job at hand.” Happy Independence Day from the Cannon Valley Senior Center.
