We are proud to announce a free concert coming up at the John Burch Park Band Shell on Saturday, August 2nd. Make plans now to bring your family and friends to enjoy the sounds of the “Haining Family.” The band is made up of mom, dad, 3 daughters and 1 son and they play a unique blend of Gospel, Bluegrass, Old- Time, Yodeling, Southern Gospel, and Folk music. They like to call it "Front-Porch, Family- Style Music". The show will get underway at 6:30 p.m., is free and open to all ages! In case of inclement weather, the concert will be moved to the Cannon Falls High School Auditorium.
We are thrilled with the turnout for our weekly “Senior Softball” at Archie Swenson fields in Cannon Falls. Anyone over 60, men and women, are welcome to join the fun every Tuesday morning from 10 a.m. till 11:30 a.m. Last month this group even played a game against the Northfield Seniors! Again, feel free to show up and have some fun with Shepherd Center’s “Senior Softball”…there is no charge to play. If you have any questions, feel free to contact John Hobert at 507-263-3693.
A number of you received a letter from Shepherd’s Center last month as part of our annual “Business Appeal.” Thank you so much for those of you who made a financial donation and just a reminder that it’s not too late to make a contribution. As I’ve stated numerous times, we survive on the support of the Cannon Valley area and strive to offer programs and services that are beneficial to the area. Another way to help in our financial needs is to save your receipts from Econo Foods. Every time we collect $150,000 worth of receipts, Econo Foods makes a generous donation of $1000 to Shepherd’s Center. Feel free to drop off those receipts at Shepherd’s Center during regular business hours.
Shepherd’s Center will be coordinating appointments for filing property tax through AARP. The scheduled date is Saturday, July 19th and if you’re interested, you should contact Shepherd’s Center at 507-263-2136.
Remember our annual fund raising concert is Saturday, October 18th at the high school auditorium. This year’s show is “Ricky Nelson Remembered” featuring his twin sons, Matthew and Gunnar Nelson. We’ll be heading to Washington D.C. October 22nd through the 30th and currently have about 12 spots remaining. Contact Shepherd’s Center for more information.
Remember, you’re always welcome to stop in and enjoy our library, computers with internet access or to just come in and visit over a cup of coffee. Shepherd’s Center is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. till 3 p.m.
With the 4th of July at hand, I leave you this month with a quote from President George W. Bush, “We will not waver; we will not tire; we will not falter, and we will not fail. Peace and Freedom will prevail.” Happy Independence Day from all of us here Shepherd’s Center.
